Essays

A collection of miscellaneous writings, mainly on art history topics, some cross-posted from my blog. Comments are welcome, to folio12@gmail.com

This essay has recently been listed as recommended reading for an art history course at an American university. It is part of an essay written in 2005. It arrives at what I believe to be an original interpretation of Cézanne's Still Life with Apples and Oranges and could shed new light on his motivation.

There's also more on this painting among the links listed below.

  • Cubism: The Big Picture

This was written in June/July 2006 as the final project for an art history course.
The text is unchanged but I've taken out the pictures and replaced them with links, except for one image and two of my own scribble analyses. The conclusions I reach differ from standard accounts of Cubism and I hope readers will find it interesting. Comments are welcome to folio12@gmail.com). It's just over 2000 words not counting the references.
